Based in Vancouver, BC, Brent Comber creates stunningly simple yet contemporary pieces from wood found along the Pacifc Northwest coast. Douglas fir and western red cedar are just two of the wood types that can be found in his collection. "Inspired by the paradox of ancient materials and contemporary forms, Brent Comber brings the rugged North West Coast into the urban setting. By remaining true to the spirit of this precious material, his pieces blur the boundaries between form and function.I was inspired by Isamu Noguchi's "helix of the endless" totem installed at his museum in Long Island City, New York. The totem was made of many twisting sections of granite and basalt that fascinated me. The Helix is my attempt to instill a sense of movement and energy into a piece.
