Big Hug 4571 pedestal base
"The idea for the design of these pieces comes from the feeling of resting in someone's lap with their arms around you. The objective with Hug was to develop this idea into a comfortable chair with a wood frame. "My work began with an exploration of the possibilities of forming bent solid wood in three dimensions. The shape of the final design was created using simple paper models, then these forms were converted into computer files. These files were transferred to a CNC router to produce the actual parts which Gärsnästhen combined into a continuous embracing form."
The chair was awarded Excellent Swedish Design 2002 — Design prize and has been included in the permanent collections of National Museum Stockholm.
